Pineapple Doughnut is the name used by Trevor Daly and Theo ten Brummelaar for their musical collaborations since the demise of their band Fool’s Kingdom in the early 80s. The band has had many people contribute over the decades and now includes Sallie Cruise and Kaspar von Braun. Trevor and Theo met on their first day in primary school and have been good friends and musical partners ever since.

All but two of the songs on this album were written since the release of the last album in mid-2024.Trevor is the the primary wordsmith while Theo leans more towards the musical parts and arrangements. The writing process sometimes starts with an idea for the lyrics and sometimes springs from a riff or chord progression one of us has. For example the tune “Ex” came from a riff Trevor had while the words came from a remark Trevor made toTheo, “you can’t write any more songs about that woman!”. This led to a discussion about ex-partners in general and ended with each of us writing one verse.

The album was largely produced in “The Blue Room” upstairs at Coogee Bay Road where Theo lives using Logic 12 on an iMac computer. Some overdubs and mixing was also done at Trevor’s home in South Durras using a laptop. All vocals were recorded using an AKG-C414 microphone while the guitars were plugged directly into the audio interface and then we used amplifier sims inside Logic. The audio interfaces used were a Universal Audio Volt 276 and a Scarlett i8020. Many built in Logic and UAD plugins were used.

Trevor played a Fender Jazz Bass, as well asTheo’s Squire Telecaster, Martin SC10E and Yamaha 12 string acoustic guitars.

Theo used his Fender Stratocaster for his guitar parts, an old Technics electric piano for the midi programming, and his Roland V-Drums using EZ-Drummer samples for the drums.

Many parts were recorded in the homes of the distant players and what we know about the gear they used is described in the individual bios in the musicians page.
